Zoe Newell - counsellor, Mindful Connections Counselling

Mindful Connections is a counselling practice grounded in compassion, respect, and the belief that meaningful change is possible for everyone. Therapy is offered through a person-centred approach that honours each individual’s lived experience, values, and goals, creating a supportive space for reflection, healing, and growth.

Counselling is not about fixing or pathologising people. It is about understanding what has shaped your experiences, recognising your strengths, and supporting you to move forward in ways that feel aligned and sustainable. Sessions are collaborative and paced to suit you, with care taken to foster safety, trust, and autonomy.

About me

I’m a registered counsellor with a Bachelor of Youth Work, a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science and Counselling, and I am nearing completion of a Master of Counselling. My academic journey has provided a strong foundation in therapeutic practice, while my experience in the community services sector has deepened my understanding of the diverse and complex challenges people face.

I’ve had the privilege of working with children and adults with disability, as well as individuals navigating substance and behavioural addictions, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, body image and self-esteem concerns, and relationship difficulties. My approach is compassionate and person-centred, grounded in the belief that every individual holds the strength and resilience to create meaningful change.

I am passionate about walking alongside my clients as they explore new pathways, reconnect with their values, and move toward their goals and desired outcomes. I strive to foster autonomy, build confidence, and equip people with practical tools to support their wellbeing, while always honouring each person’s unique story and pace.

Whether you are seeking support through a difficult time or looking to grow and thrive, counselling offers space to uncover what’s possible.

Therapeutic approach and values

My counselling practice is grounded in a person-centred framework, where each individual’s story, strengths, and goals guide the therapeutic process. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, blending modalities where appropriate to meet each client’s needs in a thoughtful and flexible way.

Therapy focuses on emotional awareness, self-understanding, resilience, and practical strategies that support wellbeing both within and beyond sessions. I believe in meeting people where they are and creating a space that feels safe, respectful, and empowering.

Meet Zoe

Outside the therapy space, I’m a nature-loving, book-devouring soul with a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys and wild adventures. When I’m not immersed in the pages of a good book, you’ll often find me hiking through lush forests, chasing waterfalls, or sitting quietly in nature soaking up its calm and wisdom.

Movement and mindfulness are important parts of my life. Yoga helps keep me grounded, strength training keeps me empowered, and meditation supports connection and balance. I share my life with two loyal companions, a German Shepherd and a Staffy, and I have a genuine soft spot for animals of all kinds.

I believe in the healing power of laughter, the joy of meaningful connection, and the importance of carving out moments that help us feel truly alive. These values naturally shape the way I show up in my work, bringing warmth, curiosity, and authenticity into the therapeutic relationship.

Accessible support

Mindful Connections offers counselling via telehealth Australia-wide through secure video or phone sessions. In-person appointments can be arranged in the Geelong CBD upon request, depending on availability. This flexibility allows counselling to fit into real life, while remaining supportive, professional, and accessible.
